What to Expect

LAYING THE FOUNDATION

What to expect when you first visit our office.

Chiropractic care is like building a house: certain things have to happen in a particular order to ensure everything will stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .

Phase 1: Relieving Acute Symptoms

During this phase we focus on relief for your most pressing symptoms. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need care 2-3 times per week for 2-6 weeks.

Phase 2: Correcting the Cause of the Problem

During the corrective care phase we focus on the root cause of your problem to better ensure that your symptoms do not return. This is important for your body to heal and for you to regain your life. It is typical to need care 2-4 times per month for 1-6 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.

Phase 3: Maintenance

Once your body has fully healed, it is important to maintain your progress to avoid reoccurring problems in the future. This is designed to keep you from losing the progress you have already made.

1st Visit

Patient Forms

Upon entering our office, Sarah will welcome you as a member of our family. We require that your new patient forms be completed and ready when you arrive. These forms provide us with your health history and information on your condition. We also require all patients to view our “What Makes Us Unique” video prior to the initial consultation. It is preferred that any additional imaging, test or labs be brought into our office at this time to better assist the doctors in determining treatment protocols and additional testing.

What Makes Us Unique

Consultation

Consultation

Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. Clark to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for the doctor to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how we can help you meet your goals.

Functional Neurologic Examination

After your consultation, Dr. Clark will perform a complete neurologic chiropractic examination, testing neurologic function and symmetry. Other standard neurologic, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed based on patient presentation and complaint. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent.

X-Ray Studies

Depending on your specific condition, specific chiropractic X-rays may be needed. X-rays help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. Most people are amazed once they see their X-rays up close. In some cases, they can even identify their misalignments and degeneration themselves.

2nd Visit - Report of Findings

An appointment will be made for you and your spouse/significant other (if applicable) to come back for a detailed report of all findings and to answer any questions including:

  • What’s wrong with me?
  • Can you help me?
  • How often do I need to come in?
  • What will my treatment cost?

After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and X-rays, Dr. Clark will discuss recommendations and notify you if we are able to accept your case. If accepted, you will be presented with the best treatment recommendations for your specific needs. All recommendations are made on a case by case basis and specific to each individual.

Treatment

At the conclusion of the report of findings, you will be provided the opportunity to experience your first treatment. This may include spinal adjustments, specific physical and brain based therapies, rebuilder electrotherapy, somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP), cold laser therapy, infrared heat, Trigenics therapy, Neurofeedback, and/or non-surgical spinal decompression. Treatment is interactive, so at any time, you can express concerns about your treatment.

Wellness Program

Before you leave, the doctor will suggest a wellness program to incorporate outside of treatment. If you are in pain when you first come into our office, this may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire, our wellness team will work with you to create healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. Every person is unique; therefore everyone requires a customized wellness plan. The purpose of our wellness program s for you to achieve good spinal alignment, balanced neurologic function, healthy nutritious diet, specific exercise regimen, and to maintain a positive mental state.
